Some plants will take over a border if given free rein, and need controlling from the roots up.
The mint I rescued from my herb container is a case in point, so planted it in a pot of John Innes No 3, which I then dug into a border.
The plant should grow healthily, but because the roots are contained it should not spread throughout the bed.
